Bran Castle-a History
and Art Museum
In 1948 Bran Castle was introduced into the national patrimony and in the spring
of 1957 the monument from Bran mountain pass was inaugurated as a history and art
museum.
The Museum's
Guidebook
In the army room and at the fortified curtain wall's shooting
holes, guns peculiar to the 15th-18th centuries were
displayed: cross-bows, heavy guns, Transylvanian
shields, swords and armours which come to emphasise
the stronghold military function.
In the Castellan's Office and in
the Town Council Hall, besides Lucas
Hircher painted portrait, and valuable
pieces of furniture, documents issued by
the castellan's office were displayed as well as his vow of
faith which emphasis the administrative and juridical
function the castellans exerted upon the Bran area.
Thus, in the Castle's Chapel ,
adorned whith Gothic elements,
pieces of fine arts were displayed as well as pieces of
furniture belonging to the style. The wooden carved
pieces: "Ana Threefolded" assigned to the German
school of art are remarcable through old age and
stylistic treatment and "St. Laurence".
In the Music Chamber, rectangular in shape with a ceiling supported by poles and with embrasured windows we can find
Oriental and European China, ceramics and tiles, all protected
by glass cases, among which two 17th Persian bowls and a pear
of shaped vase, two 18th century Delf plates, a China plate from
Tin Diansty, a figurine presenting a rooster on a heap of wheat
from the 18th century in Meissen, italian ceramics, English and
Spanish tiles.
In Sleepeng room, the most imposing piece of furniture
displayed is a curtain cover bed impressive in size, whose
altoreliefs or carving seem to belong to the 17th-18th century
more likely to the Australian Baroque. in the same room, there
is a stove made up of Urbino tile plates decorated with
landscapes which are separated by\ the plottings of virtues,
dating 1762.
The next room, named the Oriental
Chamber, is trapezoidal in shape after
the objects displayed, with painted poles, its windows
being fixed on the ancient shooting holes. Here we can see:
remarkable Gheordez crusts, a 16th-17th century Senne
shabrack - gold and silver objects: a Persian brass silver-
guilded tray, a brass vase for burning charcoal, some brass
buckets. On the NW side there is a fireplace with store tiles decorated with the
tree of life motive.
